My First Foray Into Website Design

So I took some time off from posting here to start my very own web design business, and I just finished with my first project. It's a portfolio site for Jenny Zhang, an Ann Arbor marketer. I created it using PHP on Linux. My IDE was Bluefish and Kate (believe it or not), and I finally conquered Prototype. Tell me what you all think in the comments.

Nice work. I'm not a designer as you can see from my site, but one thing I noticed that you could add is a favicon (site logo) in your header.php file (?). You could use the green petal to the left of Jenny Zhang on each page. This will show up in the left end of the address bar and in the bookmarks when the site is bookmarked.

Looks nice on the first glance. But: Have you ever tried to validate a page? Have a look at the errors of http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jennyzhang.net%2F
When using XHTML you should at least close all tags - like img, which do not have their own close tags with />

Actually, I like it. The layout flows with the page topics and the navigation is good too. I also like the artwork. Nice job!

As for what Steffen said, he is right about the validation. Look into that and you'll have it all set. ;)

Looks pretty nice. I would suggest changing the web server to just report "Apache", however (ServerTokens Prod).

Right now, it shows "Apache/2.2.11 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.11 OpenSSL/0.9.8i DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635", which is basically advertising what people need to find vulnerabilities in order to hack it. May not be any known issues now, but if it isn't kept updated, there will be.

Inspirational!

I loved the layout, colour and font choices.

The contact page only has a dull form to fill in.

Especially for a marketers website this is a showstopper. I expected at least a few IM to pick from, and a telephone number. And a picture of her of course.

And an address. Maybe she is just around the corner?

This contact page says: "I do not want to reveal myself". Unfortunately that translates right into: "Not really interested in doing business with you".

It's quite nice and cleanly done. Congratulations!

I'd actually stick to html rather than xhtml though it seems the w3c has discontinued it

Maybe it's my eyes or my browser (Firefox) or my laptop resolution, but it seems that you are using two different type font sizes (I think by accident). In your "Cutting Edge Knowledge..." section, paragraph "Using basic applications..." is a smaller font than then next paragraph "When I teach and consult...". Maybe it's on purpose? I just don't know. Layout looks quite nice.

Business organizations have to realize the fact that many people just click away to some other website, because the website they are looking at is not professional looking or is not interesting enough. Only a well designed website can serve the purpose of its existence.
Once the website is designed up to the mark, then comes the role of SEO because a well designed website won’t serve it’s purpose until and unless it has a good search ranking. Globally India is the most sort after for such solutions. There are many companies in India that provide solutions for web designing ecommerce and website seo development and in their race of being the best Virtual Studio is leading the way.
